Tile care and maintenance

Preventative maintenance & regular cleaning

It’s not that hard to take care of tile and stone flooring—there are just a few easy maintenance steps. Regularly following these tips will ensure that your tile continues to look as beautiful as the day it was installed.

Use protective mats in entryways and pads under furniture legs.

Regularly, sweep your floor to remove dirt and grit. Damp-mop once a week (or more often for heavy traffic areas) using a special cleaner we can recommend.

Make sure the cleanser you use is a neutral pH compatible with grout cleaning. Never use detergent or soap, which can dull the surface or promote mildew growth. Cleaners should never contain acids, vinegar, chlorines, or ammonia, as these chemicals can damage and discolor both the grout and the stone or tile.

Handling spills & stains

When you have a spill on your tile, simply wipe it away with a clean, dry cloth. But, make sure your tile is dry afterward, as ceramic and porcelain tile can be extremely slippery when wet!

If you need to use any cleaning products, make sure they are manufacturer-approved and are compatible with grout.

If you notice a haze on your tiles after cleaning, you probably have soap residue. You may remove the film with a nonabrasive, all-purpose cleaner.
